Welcome to the 2026 Municipal and School Board election hub!
The next municipal election will be held on October 26, 2026.
Elections give residents power to influence local decision-making by selecting leaders dedicated to serving our community. Make sure to check back regularly as this hub will be updated as we reach different milestones in the process.
2026 Municipal and School Board Election
In the Town of Innisfil, eligible voters can elect a:
- Mayor
- Deputy Mayor
- Ward Councillor (find your ward)
- School Board Trustee
Once elected, Council members serve a four-year term. The next term of Council will start on November 15, 2026.

Voter information
Elections Ontario is providing the voters list for municipal elections. You can now register to vote in both provincial and local elections all in one place! Confirm, update or add your information to the Register for provincial, municipal, and school board elections in Ontario.
Updating your school support
Updating your school support designation ensures that your taxes go toward the correct school board and allows you to vote for the appropriate School Board Trustee. To update your school support information, visit MPAC's Online School Support Tool.
Update your designation by June 1, 2026 to be included in the Preliminary List of Electors for the upcoming municipal and school board elections on October 26, 2026.
How to vote |

In 2026, Innisfil residents and property owners will be able to cast their vote in the Municipal and School Board Election from anywhere with internet access or telephone service. This means you can vote from the comfort of your own home, on-the-go, or at an Election Service Centre! Election Service CentresOur Election Service Centres provide internet access so you can vote using an iPad or other tablet device. Help will be available on-site, including adding electors to the voters list and printing Voter Information Letters. Election Service Centre dates and locations will be provided closer to Election Day. |

Candidate information
Interested in running in the 2026 Municipal and School Board Election? Please pick up a Candidate Package at Innisfil Town Hall during regular office hours, or print off and fill out the required forms to be submitted.
Nominations for all positions can be filed during regular office hours starting on May 1, 2026 at 8:30 a.m. until Nomination Day on August 21, 2026 at 2:00 p.m.

The Candidate Package includes mandatory forms and prescribed notices:
*Prescribed nomination forms have not yet been released by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing. Anticipated release date is April 2026. To file your nomination, you must complete and sign all forms within the Candidate Package and submit them directly to Election staff at Innisfil Town Hall. Please note original signature are required on all forms. |

Trustees help shape the education experience, the school environment and the future of our children, communities and province. Locally-elected school trustees put the “public” in publicly-funded education. They are connectors who bring community voices to the table and make democracy meaningful. |

Third Party Advertisers
A registered third-party advertiser is an individual, corporation, trade union, or other body that advertises to support or oppose a candidate for the municipal election.
There is no registration fee for third-party advertisers, but the Clerk must examine the registration, and then certify the notice of registration if deemed compliant, or reject the registration. No election advertising outside of a candidate or registered third-party is permitted.
A registered third-party is subject to many of the same requirements as that of a candidate, including filing registration papers, expense limits and financial statements, and is subject to the Town’s Election Sign By-law and other legislation and by-laws.
Third-party advertisers may register with the Clerk's department from May 1, 2026 until October 26, 2026. Registered third-party packages will be available by spring 2026.

Advertising that does not cost money to post or broadcast, such as comments made on social media, will not be considered as third-party advertising. |

Rules for broadcasters and publishers |

Broadcasters and publishers are responsible for ensuring that all qualifying advertisements comply with the Municipal Elections Act. Restricted campaign period Broadcasters and publishers may only permit third-party advertisements to appear between May 1, 2026 to October 26, 2026. Maintaining records The broadcaster or publisher of a third-party advertisement must maintain records for 4 years after the date the advertisement appears. These records must contain:
The public must be permitted to inspect the records during normal business hours. Charges and contributions The broadcaster or publisher may not charge a third-party advertiser more or less than their normal advertising rate. If less is charged, the difference is deemed to be a contribution to the third-party advertiser. Providing free advertising is considered a contribution towards the third-party advertiser, unless all third-party advertisers are offered the same service. Broadcasters or publishers as registered third-party advertisers Broadcasters or publishers who wish to conduct third-party advertising must register as a third-party advertiser and follow the requirements of the Act.
