Document Commissioning
The Town of Innisfil has a Commissioner of Oaths who is available to witness or sign documents that require a commissioner's signature for $28.75. A Commissioner of Oaths is a person authorized to take your oath or solemn affirmation when you sign an affidavit or a statutory declaration. Eligible documents will state that a commissioner's signature is required, which can include:
- Gift of a Vehicle
- Travel Documents for Children
- Proof of Life (Foreign Pensions)
Booking your appointment
Please contact us to set up your appointment. In-person appointments are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Please have your identification ready
Any person that is signing the document must be present and provide their government-issued identification that includes a photo and signature (i.e., a driver's licence). Please ensure your document is complete and do not sign until you're in the presence of a Commissioner.
Virtual appointments
You can request a virtual appointment and after reviewing, we will respond to set up an appointment during regular business hours. You must have a webcam for all virtual appointments. Before you start, make sure that the end party asking for the document will accept a virtual copy.
Once the appointment is booked, follow these easy steps:
- Open the Zoom link we provided to meet with the Commissioner
- Hold up the unsigned document and your photo ID (with your signature) for the Commissioner to verify
- Commissioner administers oath or declaration
- Sign and hold up the document with your signature and ID for the Commissioner to verify
- Email the Commissioner the signed document
After reviewing, the Commissioner will email it back to you, stamped and signed.
Please note
A Commissioner does not certify that the statements made in the affidavit or statutory declaration are true. They only certify that an oath or solemn affirmation has been administered properly. If your document needs a signature of a notary, or if you need certified document copies, you will need to contact a lawyer or a notary.
