Background
The Association of Municipalities of Ontario reported an average voter turnout of 36.30% in the 2022 municipal elections (based on 385 municipalities). This was down from 2018 outcomes (38.30%), and overall, is the lowest turnout at the municipal level since 1982. In Innisfil, voter turnout was only 24.26% in the 2022 municipal election.
The Electoral Engagement Advisory Committee was approved by Council as part of a broader Municipal Elections Engagement Plan. The recommendations provided by its members will help to improve future election outcomes by ensuring all eligible electors are informed, educated, and encouraged to vote.
