Couples wishing to get married in the Province of Ontario require a valid marriage licence, which can be purchased from the Town of Innisfil.

Civil marriage ceremonies

The Town offers civil marriage ceremony services for those looking for a simple, non-religious ceremony. We conduct ceremonies at Innisfil Town Hall within Council Chambers or at the outdoor gazebo at Town Hall. With arrangements made by the couple, our officiants can also attend private venues and residences. Ceremonies are available on Fridays and Saturdays.

Age requirements

You need to be at least 16 years old to get married in Ontario. If you are under 18, you will need written consent from both your parents. Contact us for further information or for consent forms.

Marriage after divorce

If a previous marriage was dissolved or annulled within Canada, you must submit your original or certified copy of the Decree Absolute or Certificate of Divorce to the Town. You can get a certified copy from the courts. We return these documents to you immediately.

If a previous marriage was dissolved or annulled outside of Canada, you must obtain authorization from the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services before getting a marriage licence.

Licence expiry

Marriage licences are typically valid anywhere in Ontario for three months, or 90 days, from the date it was issued. You must give the licence to the marriage officiant prior to the ceremony.

Marriage certificates

You can obtain your marriage certificate from Service Ontario about 12 weeks after the date of your ceremony. The document you receive at the ceremony from your officiant is your Record of Solemnization of Marriage. It includes the couple's names, date of marriage and names of your witnesses, but it is not a marriage certificate or legal record.
