At the Town of Innisfil, we understand that using vehicles can be a fun and exciting way to spend time outdoors. Our Parks By-lawATV (All Terrain Vehicle) By-law and Snowmobiles By-law regulate vehicle usage in Town to keep our community and natural spaces safe, beautiful and enjoyable for you and your family.

Where to ride

Off-roading is only allowed on designated trails. Simcoe County hosts a number of vehicle clubs which give club members access to designated trails, trail maps and trail updates. Find your local club:

 ATVs on the road

ATVs may be driven on Innisfil municipal roads. An ATV is an vehicle designed for a single person, equipped with four wheels, a steering handlebar and a seat meant to be straddled by the driver. The maximum speed of an ATV is 20 km/h on roads where the speed limit is 50 km/h or less. On roads with speed limits exceeding 50 km/h, the maximum speed of an ATV increases to 50 km/h.

Here are some regulations to keep in mind when driving your ATV:

  • ATV must have headlights and taillights on at all times and an operating brake light

  • ATV is driven by a single driver with no passengers

  • Driver has a G2 or higher class licence

  • Driver is wearing an approved helmet

 Snowmobiles on the road

Snowmobiles may be driven on Innisfil municipal roads. A snowmobile, or a motorized snow vehicle, is a self-propelled vehicle designed to be driven primarily on snow. The maximum speed of a snowmobile is 20 km/h on roads where the speed limit is 50 km/h or less. On roads with speed limits exceeding 50 km/h, the maximum speed of a snowmobile increases to 50 km/h.

Here are some regulations to keep in mind when driving your snowmobile:

  • Snowmobile registration number must be clearly displayed

  • Driver has a valid Ontario driver's licence

  • Driver and passengers are wearing approved helmets

Restrictions

Motorized vehicles, including ATVs and snowmobiles, are not allowed in Town of Innisfil parks, trails and recreational areas. You cannot drive an ATV on municipal roads between the hours of 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. You cannot drive a snowmobile on a sidewalk, except to cross it. You must respect other people, the natural environment, private property and public property. 

Failure to follow regulations and restrictions may result in a fine.
