Background

Under the Municipal Act, Ontario municipal councils have the authority to determine their own remuneration and are required to review it periodically. The most recent Council compensation review in Innisfil was completed in 2018. That review led to updates that recognized the growing demands of the role and the importance of attracting a strong, diverse, and representative group of residents interested in serving on Council.

Since then, factors such as ongoing population growth, increased complexity in Council responsibilities, and evolving community expectations make it timely to consider another review. A new review will help ensure Council compensation remains fair, transparent, and consistent with similar municipalities. It also supports the broader objectives outlined in the Town’s Municipal Elections Engagement Plan.
