Water emergencies

InnServices is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to deal with emergencies such as broken water meters and broken watermains. You can call:

  • 705-436-3710 for water emergencies Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • 705-436-2141 for water emergencies during holidays, evenings or weekends

Sewer back-ups

If your sewer backs up, there are two calls you should make as quickly as possible:

  • Your home insurance provider
  • InnServices at at 705-436-3710 (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday) or 705-436-2141 (holidays, evenings and weekends)

You may need a licensed plumbing/drain contractor. Once the InnServices operators have arrived, the property owner will be required to sign a Sewer Servicing Agreement before starting any work.

Responsibility for repairs

If the problem with the sewer lateral exists on the private property side, then it is the property owner's responsibility to call a licensed plumbing/drain contractor to perform any additional maintenance or rehabilitation work to address the cause of the blockage.

If there is a deficiency with the sewer lateral caused by grease or materials such as diapers, paper towels or feminine hygiene products, the property owner will be responsible for having it removed.

If the problem with the lateral exists on the public property side, the Town of Innisfil will make an assessment to determine if any additional remedial work is required. The Town will complete any work required on the public side at no cost to the owner.

Call Ontario One Call

Before clearing a blocked sewer service line outside, call Ontario One Call at 1-800-400-2255. It is extremely important that you make sure no natural gas line intersects the sewer line before attempting to clear it. Using rotating or water jetting equipment to clear a blocked sewer line can damage a natural gas line and cause a serious gas leak. Ontario One Call offers free Natural Gas Sewer Safety Inspections on behalf of Enbridge, even if you are not a natural gas customer.

How to prevent a sewer back-up

Prevent sewer back-ups with these tips:

  • Do not dispose of paper towels, "flushable wipes", diapers or feminine hygiene products in your residential sewer line
  • Avoid pouring cooking oil and grease down the sewer drain. As these liquids cool, they can solidify and clog the drain
  • Review your residential insurance policy or contact your agent to determine if your policy covers damages due to sewer backups or water damage. In many cases, you can purchase this additional coverage at a minimal cost
