The Town of Innisfil is reconstructing 25th Sideroad from Big Bay Point Road/13th Line to Innisfil Beach Road. The redesigned corridor adds new features that will:

  • Promote active lifestyles
  • Address traffic concerns
  • Improve the quality of life
  • Address the climate crisis by expanding transportation choices for road users

The proposed features will greatly enhance travel for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists. By adding sidewalks, cycling facilities, and traffic calming measures, the roadway will support active transportation and improve the safety of road users.

Timeline

The project will be designed in two phases and constructed in five phases:

Timelines and phasing are subject to change based on the coordination of work with InnServices, ease of property acquisition, utility relocations, and other factors.

Phase 1 - Detailed Design 2023-2024, Construction 2026

Phase 1 covers a 1.4 km section of roadway from Big Bay Point Road to Mapleview Drive. The project consists of grading and restoration works, drainage improvements including bioswales integrated into the ditches, and a multi-use trail on the east side of the road.

Property acquisition is currently ongoing. Construction work is expected to start at the beginning of 2026 with advance tree clearing, then resume in the spring with completion expected in the fall of 2026.

Detailed design for the remainder of 25th Sideroad, from Mapleview Drive to Innisfil Beach Road, will be completed as one project. Construction will continue to be phased.

Phase 2

The project limits of Phase 2 are Lockhart Road to 10th Line.

The design is expected to begin in the first half of 2026 and is expected to take two years, including utility relocations and property acquisitions. Construction of Phase 2 is expected to begin in 2029.

Phase 3

The project limits of Phase 3 are Mapleview Drive to Lockhart Road.

Phase 4

The project limits of Phase 4 are 10th Line to south of James Street.

Phase 5

The project limits of Phase 5 are south of James Street to Innisfil Beach Road.

Background

In 2021, WSP Canada was retained to develop a preliminary design for the project, with a goal to enhance the safety and experience of all road users while expanding transportation options for Innisfil residents. After a thorough public consultation process, the preliminary design was completed in 2022. The design aligns with the Town’s vision to implement roadway improvements that accommodate growth while prioritizing active transportation, safety, and environmental sustainability.
