Drainage Improvements - Park Road
With increased flooding, drainage is becoming a larger issue that the Town of Innisfil must plan for. Many areas prone to flooding are next to Lake Simcoe which affect not only residents, but the water quality of the watershed. Several roads with known drainage problems, including Park Road, have been evaluated to determine their current drainage issues and potential solutions.
Park Road and Innisfil Beach Park
Park Road services a large drainage area and being so close to Lake Simcoe, flooding events happen often during the spring thaw and heavy rainfalls. In 2022, drainage was redirected through Innisfil Beach Park by creating a 3 m wide channel that outlets into Lake Simcoe. We worked with the Lake Simcoe Conservation Authority to create pocket wetlands in the park to improve water quality and create habitat for wildlife. A trail runs parallel to the naturalized channel to improve park connections and recreational use throughout the park.
The project also included ditch grading improvements and culvert replacements in the Town's right of way for a number of addresses.
Environmental Study Report
We completed a Schedule “B” Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) study for drainage improvements to Park Road. These improvements will help reduce flooding concerns on private properties along Park Road. The study considers the need to divert an existing ditch away from the Park Road drainage system. We are also working with the Lake Simcoe Conservation Authority to create a potential wetland to improve water quality and create wildlife habitat.
