Anytime you are doing work on a roadway or occupying that road, including making changes to the boulevard or ditch portion of your driveway, you must get permission from the road owner.

The Town of Innisfil issues a variety of road permits that grant you permission to use our roadways. If you are not sure if you are making changes to a town-owned road, please review our road jurisdictions, or contact us at 705-436-3710 for assistance.

Review our Roads By-law and the permit information below to learn how to apply.

Half load restrictions

Half load restrictions (By-law 017-01) are typically in place from March 1 through May 1 for all Town roads. County of Simcoe roads in Innisfil are also subject to reduced load restrictions. Commercial vehicles cannot exceed a weight of 5,000 kilograms per axle, unless they meet the exceptions under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)

Oversized load permits

You need an oversized load permit if your vehicle, load dimensions or weight exceeds the limits set in the Highway Traffic Act. View our Oversized Load By-law for complete details about weight and size restrictions on municipal roads. During half load restrictions, oversized load permits do not apply.

Oversized Load Application

We need five business days to process your application.

Right of way / road occupancy permit

You need a right of way permit to do work on or near a roadway, or if you will be occupying a roadway for an extended period of time. Work could include repairs on utilities, reconstruction, utility installation, bore holes, storage of materials, accessing a property and temporary signage. View the Right of Way Guidelines and Permit Procedures for full details.

Right of Way Permit Application

Right of way permits are valid for the application dates only. If work will extend beyond the approved time, you must apply for a permit extension prior to the permit expiry date.

If you will be changing the flow of traffic or require a road closure, you will also need to provide a traffic control plan with your application.

Municipal consent permits

A municipal consent (MC) permit is the Town’s first step in approving the installation or relocation of utilities within the Town’s right of way. A road occupancy permit may also be required to undertake the work. View the Municipal Consent Guidelines for full details.

The Town of Innisfil is only accepting municipal consent applications on-line. We require 30 business days to process your application.
