Dog Licences
If you have a dog in Innisfil, you need to buy a dog licence. When you buy a dog licence, we'll give you a tag to place on your dog's collar. Dog tags help us reconnect lost pets with their families.
Buy a dog licence
Please contact inquiry@innisfil.ca or give us a call at 705-436-3710 to buy a new dog licence. You'll need to provide the following information when you apply:
- Your name, property address, and contact information
- Proof of up-to-date rabies vaccination
- Dog's name
- Breed of dog
- Whether or not your dog is spayed/neutered and has a microchip
- Colour
- Sex
Renew a dog licence
You need to renew your dog licence annually. Renewals are due on the anniversary of the date you originally received your dog licence.
You'll need to provide proof of rabies vaccination from your vet. Make sure to have a picture or scanned copy of your Rabies Vaccination Certificate.
Replacement tags
If you lose your dog tag, you can contact us to buy a replacement tag. Replacement tags cost $5.60.
Fees
If your dog has a microchip or breeder tattoo, the following fees apply:
- $32.90 for each dog (not spayed or neutered)
- $17.00 for each dog (spayed or neutered)
- $331.00 for a dangerous dog (as defined in the Animal Control By-law)
If your dog doesn't have a microchip, the following fees apply:
- $38.20 for each dog (not spayed or neutered)
- $22.20 for each dog (spayed or neutered)
- $331.00 for dangerous dogs (as defined in the Animal Control By-law)
There is no fee for licensing a service dog. Seniors get a 50% discount on licensing fees. This discount does not apply to the dangerous dog fee.
How many dogs can I have?
There is a two-dog limit per property in the Town of Innisfil. You can apply for an exemption through Customer Service if you have more than two dogs on your property. Please e-mail inquiry@innisfil.ca to begin the process and include:
- The reason for the exemption request
- Dog and property information
- Your name, property address, and contact information
- Proof of up-to-date rabies vaccination
- Dog's name
- Breed of dog
- Whether or not your dog is spayed/neutered and has a microchip
- Colour
- Sex
- Other relevant information on the dog (e.g. health conditions, temperament concerns)
