Innisfil, ON – On World Mental Health Day, the Town of Innisfil is hosting Speak Your Mind to provide youth and their parents and caregivers the opportunity to learn, discuss, and explore mental health topics in a safe and supportive environment.

Youth in Grades 6 to 12 and their parents and caregivers are invited to attend the free event:

  • Thursday, October 10, 2024
  • 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. (doors open at 5:30 p.m.)
  • Innisfil Town Hall (2101 Innisfil Beach Road)

“The Town’s Speak Your Mind initiatives give youth a safe space to talk about mental health, connect with available services, and get tips and tools for navigating the teenage years,” says Mayor Lynn Dollin. “This year, we’re inviting parents and caregivers to join the event to help navigate the difficulties of growth, change and pressure that youth face today.”

Speak Your Mind features an interactive workshop for youth and caregivers, facilitated by Shauna Eisen of Songbird Occupational Therapy. The workshop will help youth and families learn what mental health is all about and the role it plays in each of our lives. Attendees will explore common myths, real-world stories and difficult situations to learn practical tools for supporting their mental health and that of their friends and family. Other event highlights include:

  • Information about local mental health services and question-and-answer opportunities
  • An expert panel discussion for parents and caregivers
  • Wellness and coping skills activities for youth
  • Light dinner and refreshments

The 2024 edition of Speak Your Mind is supported through the Town’s multi-year Building Safer Communities project, funded by the Government of Canada. Registration is encouraged at innisfil.ca/SYM.
