Innisfil, ON – The Town of Innisfil is excited to announce the return of its annual Pitch-In Day on Saturday, May 11 from 9 to 11 a.m. This year, the community-wide event joins the Great Global Cleanup, a movement driven by EARTHDAY.ORG to reduce plastic pollution worldwide.

Community members are invited to take part in this town-wide clean-up by collecting litter from road edges, public trails, parks and road ends. Volunteers can pick up their clean-up kits at Innisfil Town Hall and Innisfil ideaLAB & Library branches during operating hours. On May 11, from 9 to 11 a.m., community members can also pick up a kit at Innisfil Fire Station 1 (780 Innisfil Beach Road) and 2 (1214 20th Sideroad). To help determine the level of community participation and ensure that there are sufficient materials for all, people are asked to register online.

Mayor Lynn Dollin thanks all the residents who pitch in, saying, “Pitch-In Day is an integral part of spring in Innisfil. It’s a day for coming together and helping to beautify our town, and it wouldn’t be possible without the Pitch-In Day Working Group that organizes the event and the community members who join in year after year. Schools, businesses, family members, Town staff—thank you to everyone who plays a role in making this day a success!”

Many of the beloved Pitch-In Day traditions will return this year. The Town will award the coveted “Golden Broom” to the member of Council that has the highest level of proportionate participation in their ward. Schools will partake in their own clean-up events leading up to May 11. And, an appreciation barbecue will be held at Centennial Park (2870 7th Line) from 12 to 1:30 p.m. with free refreshments, food and entertainment as a thank you to the volunteers for their contributions.

Citizens who exhibit outstanding community spirit are eligible to be nominated for the Debbie Mills Civic Pride Award. This award recognizes an individual, group or business that helps the Innisfil community through exceptional volunteering. Nominations close by Friday, May 31. People can learn more about Pitch-In Day and submit a nomination for the Debbie Mills Civic Pride Award at innisfil.ca/PitchIn.
