Innisfil, ON – The Town of Innisfil is reminding residents about the available tools and tips to help them prepare for this year’s winter season.

“Winter maintenance is an important part of the services we offer our community,” says Mayor Lynn Dollin. “Crews take steps before, during and after snowfall to help residents and emergency responders safely get to where they need to go. You are encouraged to use the snowplow tracker to see, in real-time, when a snowplow has cleared your road. The Town’s website also has lots of information about our snow clearing operations and the role that residents can play to keep our streets safe during the winter months.”

Residents can plan their trip by checking the weather forecast and using the Town’s virtual Snowplow Tracker at innisfil.ca/snow. The interactive map pulls real-time data from working snowplows to show which roads and sidewalks have been cleared and when they were cleared within the last 12 hours.

Residents can help winter maintenance crews clear the streets quickly and efficiently by:

  • Following overnight parking restrictions on Innisfil’s roads to allow room for snowplows (no overnight parking from November 1 to May 1 between midnight and 7 a.m.)
  • Moving their vehicle off the road during the day when snow is falling
  • Giving snowplows plenty of space and never passing a working snowplow
  • Not pushing snow onto the road as this is a violation of the Highway Traffic Act
  • Removing items such as bins, basketball nets, and planters away from the edge of their driveway
  • Helping clear snow around fire hydrants and catch basins

The Town is currently hiring for a variety of winter casual positions. Those interested in helping deliver an essential service to Innisfil are encouraged to apply at innisfil.ca/CurrentOpportunities.

For people who need help clearing their driveway or walkway, Snow Angels Canada is a free platform that helps connect citizens to community volunteers—or Snow Angels with a shovel in hand. To sign up as a volunteer or find volunteers in the area this winter, residents can visit snowangelscanada.ca.
