Innisfil, ON – The Town of Innisfil Economic Development Office and Cookstown & District Chamber of Commerce are excited to welcome Leslie Fournier, a placemaking specialist, to Cookstown on April 30 to speak with Innisfil businesses about the power of community collaboration.

“Our main streets play an important role in bringing together our community,” says Mayor Lynn Dollin. “It’s more important than ever to shop local, support our neighbours and seize opportunities to welcome visitors to our community. This event will bring together our community’s entrepreneurs and community builders to develop community building ideas that have the power to transform ideas into action.”

Leslie Fournier has travelled across Canada, speaking with BIAs, tourism groups, cultural summits, and economic development conferences about the increasing importance of community collaboration when it comes to creating strong main streets. The event will be focussed on tangible ways that businesses can work together to increase vibrancy through collaborative efforts such as community art projects, placemaking activities and community partnership. While the event will take place in Cookstown, retailers, restaurateurs, and tourism operators from across Innisfil are encouraged to take part.

“Council recently approved the creation of a new tourism portfolio within the Economic Development Office,” says Laura Thompson, Manager of Economic Development for the Town of  Innisfil. “At this event we’ll be announcing a new tourism experience development opportunity that Innisfil businesses will be able to take advantage of in order to help activate new partnerships that drive visitors to our area.”

The event will take place at The Glass Manor, 5108 County Road 27 in Cookstown, from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 30. Tickets for this event are free, however, space is limited and advanced registration is required. Attendees can register at innisfil.ca/IdeasIntoAction.

This project is funded in part by the Ontario government through the Rural Economic Development Program.
