Innisfil, ON – At the most recent Town of Innisfil Council meeting a unanimous pledge was declared announcing Council’s commitment to taking a stance against antisemitism and all forms of racism.

“Innisfil is home to people from many different cultures, religions and backgrounds and everyone is welcome here,” says Mayor Lynn Dollin. “We will not accept or tolerate any form of hate, systemic racism and we are committed to defending diversity, inclusion and human rights.”

The Town of Innisfil has a steadfast focus on equity, diversity and inclusion, for both Town employees and residents. As the Town grows, so does its diverse populations including Indigenous peoples, new immigrants, and the 2SLGBTQ+ community.

Innisfil is also home to a growing Jewish community and as part of Council’s pledge, they commit to the following actions:

  • Stand up and speak out when antisemitism is present.
  • Learn from and work with our local Jewish community to ensure Jewish safety, security, and inclusion; including addressing antisemitism as an integral part of equity, diversity, and inclusion efforts.
  • Mark International Holocaust Remembrance Day to demonstrate an ongoing commitment to learn about the horrors of the Holocaust and to help educate all citizens about the continuing imperative to stand against hate.
  • Mark the start of Chanukah by lighting the menorah in partnership with our local Jewish community.
  • Continuing to raise awareness for the issue of antisemitism by sharing resource and educational opportunities through the Town and Library.
