Innisfil, ON – The Town of Innisfil will receive up to $962,692 from the Government of Canada’s Building Safer Communities Fund to develop and implement community safety and violence prevention initiatives for children, youth, and young adults ages 6 to 26. This contribution will extend until March 31, 2026, and allow the Town to work in partnership with the Innisfil ideaLAB & Library and local agencies including the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka and CFS Counselling + Wellbeing, to collaboratively and proactively address community safety.

“This is an incredibly generous contribution from the Government of Canada which allows us to expand our work to keep all residents safe and create programs and initiatives to support Innisfil’s children, youth, and families,” says Mayor Lynn Dollin.

The Town has already undertaken a situational assessment, consulting with a variety of stakeholders including local youth, South Simcoe Police Service, and social service organizations to determine what steps can be taken to build and maintain a safe community.

Through this assessment, several areas of focus were identified:

  • Establishing new programs, activities, and spaces for youth to gather, connect, and access support.
  • Expanding successful recreation and wellness programs and services to increase accessibility, reach, and impact.
  • Providing opportunities, resources, and support for youth-led activities and events across Innisfil.
  • Funding skill and relationship-building programs and activities for children, youth, and their parents/guardians.
  • Collaborating with community organizations to increase awareness and access to local programs and services and establishing a more collective and coordinated effort to address the needs of children, youth, and families in Innisfil.
  • Facilitating training and capacity-building opportunities for people working with children, youth, and families in Innisfil.
  • Providing public education about issues related to community safety and well-being.
