The Town of Innisfil is taking a step towards enhancing road safety and community livability with the launch of a pilot project to introduce temporary traffic calming measures on select roadways. Starting in August, the project will focus on testing these measures at four key locations:

  • Innisfil Beach Road – 20th Sideroad to Webster Boulevard
  • 25th Sideroad – Carniola Drive to 10th Line
  • 25th Sideroad – Joseph Street to Willow Avenue
  • Victoria Street – Yonge Street to North Gate Street

"As Innisfil continues to grow, so does the challenge of managing traffic and ensuring road safety," says Mayor Lynn Dollin. "We've listened to our community's concerns regarding specific roadways and the safety of vulnerable road users like our young students and elderly residents. This pilot project is a proactive step towards implementing measures shown to make our roads and neighbourhoods safer for everyone."

The measures, which will remain in place until the end of October, include signage, flexible bollards to mark lanes, and speed display boards along Innisfil Beach Road to promote safer driving habits by alerting drivers to their speed.

This initiative is part of a larger traffic calming program outlined in the Town’s 2023 Traffic Calming Strategy. The program identifies 15 locations where traffic calming measures will be implemented over the next three years and provides a process for selecting additional sites and measures over the following seven years.

During the pilot project, the Town will closely monitor the effectiveness of these temporary measures to guide future decisions about permanent traffic calming solutions across Innisfil. Key objectives include reducing speeds, minimizing cut-through traffic, enhance the livability of residential neighborhoods, maintaining access and mobility for all road users, and improving safety for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists.

Installation of these measures is scheduled to begin on July 22, with all measures to be implemented by August 16. Residents and motorists are advised that efforts will be made to minimize disruptions during the installation period. At least one lane of traffic and safe pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.
