Innisfil, ON – In the spirit of diversity, equity and inclusion, the Town of Innisfil is introducing a permanent landscape feature at Innisfil Beach Park to acknowledge the Town’s commitment as a welcoming community.

In spring 2021, members of Innisfil Pride and Town staff began a collaborative initiative to install a Pride Crosswalk at Innisfil Beach Park. Since the installation of this crosswalk, there has been significant impact from vehicular traffic and weathering.

Understanding a more permanent solution to demonstrate the Town’s commitment to inclusivity was needed, staff revisited the crosswalk concept with Innisfil Pride and UPlift Black and agreed on a new alternative. A new landscape feature, including a flagpole flying the Pride flag all year-round, will be installed near the entrance to the park.

“This a great step forward in recognizing the Town’s focus on diversity, equity and inclusion and will clearly demonstrate that all are welcome,” says Mayor Lynn Dollin.

A brief ceremony will be held at Innisfil Beach Park, just inside the park entrance on Wednesday, June 7 at 9:30 a.m. to raise the flag. This follows a flag raising at Town Hall on June 2 at 1 p.m. to celebrate Pride Month.
