Innisfil, ON – The Town of Innisfil is proud to announce the introduction of the first electric vehicle (EV) to its fleet. This EV is part of the Town’s efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and the municipality’s corporate carbon footprint.

“Electrifying the Town’s fleet and equipment where feasible is an important part of making our operations more sustainable,” says Mayor Lynn Dollin. “As leaders in our community, we continue to find efficient ways to deliver programs and services while adapting to and mitigating the impacts of climate change.”

Council approved a new Fleet Management Policy in late 2023, which prioritizes alternative fuel-use vehicle options for all new and replacement vehicle purchases. This policy is aimed at reducing emissions, local air pollution, fuel consumption and maintenance costs. To test the performance and suitability of these vehicles, the Town has acquired a Ford F-150 Lightning EV and a Dodge Hornet Plug-in Hybrid EV to help inform long-term sustainability planning.

The Ford Lightning is now in service, performing tasks typically assigned to ½ Ton Trucks such as road patrol, garbage and debris collection, and horticultural activities. The Dodge Hornet, expected later this year, will be tested by the Town’s Community Development and Standards Branch which provides services such as building inspections and municipal law enforcement.
