Town of Innisfil declares Significant Weather Event
Update (February 19 at 2 p.m.): The Significant Weather Event declaration has been lifted as we return to Ontario's Minimum Maintenance Standards. Please continue to drive with caution and according to road conditions.
Innisfil, ON – The Town of Innisfil is declaring a Significant Weather Event in response to continued inclement weather that has resulted in a significant amount of snow. The declaration will remain in effect until further notice.
The forecast provided by Environment and Climate Change Canada warns drivers that travel is anticipated to be hazardous due to reduced visibility in blowing snow and snow squalls. Take extra caution and postpone non-essential travel until conditions improve. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for taillights ahead and be prepared to stop.
During a Significant Weather Event, Innisfil’s winter services do not change. However, residents can expect winter clearing activities to take longer to complete with a continued focus on primary roads followed by secondary routes. Declaring a Significant Weather Event as it relates to Ontario’s Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways suspends the standard timelines required for municipalities to meet their maintenance objectives.
The Town reminds community members that overnight parking restrictions are in place on Innisfil’s roads between midnight and 7 a.m. to assist with snow clearing operations. When clearing snow adjacent to your property, do not shovel snow onto the street. Consider lending a helping hand to neighbours who may have difficulties shovelling snow or leaving the house due to snow or ice.
Residents are asked to be patient as snowplow crews work hard to ensure all roads and sidewalks are plowed and safe to travel on.
An update will be communicated on innisfil.ca and the Town’s social media channels once the declaration has been lifted.
