Innisfil, ON – The Town of Innisfil is declaring a Significant Weather Event in response to the major winter storm expected today into the holiday weekend. Environment Canada’s winter storm warning outlines dropping temperatures that could lead to a potential flash freeze, damaging winds, and snow.

Innisfil Town Hall and arenas will close early on December 23 at 11 a.m. Innisfil ideaLAB & Library branches and the Innisfil YMCA are closed.

Declaring a Significant Weather Event as it relates to Ontario’s Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways means an approaching or occurring weather hazard has the potential to pose a significant danger to drivers and pedestrians. This declaration suspends the standard timelines required for municipalities to meet their maintenance objectives.

During the expected period of severe weather, efforts will focus on main roads to ensure critical emergency services can continue to supply essential support. While it may take longer to address secondary routes and residential roads, the Town is dedicated to providing the best possible snow clearing service for residents.

Drivers should expect icy road conditions and reduced visibility due to heavy and blowing snow. Residents are asked to reconsider non-essential travel until conditions improve. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop. Storm conditions can also bring down powerlines. If you see a downed powerline in Innisfil, stay back at least 10 metres and call 9-1-1 and InnPower Corporation at 705-431-4321.
