Innisfil, ON – The Town of Innisfil is partnering with the Innisfil ideaLAB & Library and YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka to launch Teen Nights at community hubs across Innisfil. Starting next month, youth in Grades 7 to 12 can visit free, safe spaces to gather, connect and have fun.

Teen Nights will operate on a drop-in basis from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the following locations:

“Teen Nights represent a collaborative effort to provide youth with inclusive spaces where they can hang out, grow and thrive,” says Mayor Lynn Dollin. “Our goal is to empower teens to be active participants in their community and have a better sense of belonging. I’m looking forward to seeing these spaces evolve as teens make it their own.”

Teen Nights aim to address the need for dedicated spaces where youth can feel welcome and enjoy both structured and unstructured activities such as movie nights, snacks, video games, crafts and more. While most nights are just for teens, community members, parents and guardians are invited to check out the spaces with their teens at special Open Houses during National Youth Week on:

These Open Houses will include fun activities, food, giveaways, and the opportunity to share ideas and register participants for Teen Nights. Teens will only need to sign up once so important information, such as emergency contacts, can be collected.

"We are excited to be partnering with the Town and YMCA to create more opportunities for Innisfil's teens to explore their creativity and connect with each other," says Library CEO, Erin Scuccimarri. "This program offers a space for community to be built."

“At the YMCA, inclusion is one of our core values. We’re proud to work with our community partners to create an inclusive space for youth to connect and be themselves,” says Ryan Purdy, Regional General Manager of the Innisfil, Midland, and Parry Sound YMCAs. “Providing young people with barrier-free access to safe spaces where they can belong and thrive benefits the whole community.”

Teen Nights are funded by the Government of Canada’s Building Safer Communities Fund (BSCF). BSCF projects in Innisfil support new and incremental activities for children, teens and young adults. Through this funding, those in need of transportation to or from Teen Nights can email teennights@innisfil.ca or speak to staff at the program to access Uber gift cards.
