Team Feature: Fleet
From revamping processes to embracing cutting-edge technology, the Town's Fleet Team has been driving change and raising the bar in vehicle maintenance and sustainability.
Wheels keep on turning
Fleet works together to provide preventative maintenance and repair vehicles and equipment across Town departments and service partners like Innisfil Fire, InnServices, InnPower and South Simcoe Police. That also involves ordering parts, compliance activities such as licensing and deficiency reporting, and safety inspections to ensure staff have reliable equipment to use.
The team has been working hard on process consistency and using technology to organize work. For example, introducing Telematics technology (reading data directly from the onboard computers in our vehicles) has been a game changer for identifying, scheduling, and tracking maintenance activities.
There’s a vast variety in tech that the mechanics see regularly. Different makes, models, and years mean that they must know many systems, configurations, and maintenance needs. Under the hood, they need to diagnose and fix plumbing issues, heating and air conditioning problems, and even software glitches. Continued learning and adaptation is required as technology changes and systems get more complex.
Green all year round
Fleet is pushing forward with sustainable initiatives to reduce our overall corporate emissions. Currently the Town of Innisfil has five EV’s and one plug in hybrid in their fleet with a sixth EV set to arrive in the fall. They currently have a plow truck on order outfitted with an Auxiliary Power Unit which will keep the cab of the truck and engine warm in winter months which will significantly lower engine idle time and save fuel. Also reducing tailpipe emissions.
