Innisfil proclaims Earth Day
Whereas Earth Day was first celebrated on April 22, 1970, to inspire an appreciation of the natural world through conservation and protection; and
Whereas Earth Day marks a renewed commitment to environmental stewardship and to the implementation of efforts to improve, protect and enhance the environment; and
Whereas global challenges continue to grow, such as environmental degradation, climate change, food insecurity, and water shortages; and
Whereas the Town of Innisfil is undertaking an Integrated Sustainability Master Plan to set goals that reduce carbon emissions, adapt to climate impact, and improve sustainability across the municipality; and
Whereas the community is invited to take part in Earth Day events to learn more about climate-related risks and how to take climate action; and
Whereas residents of Innisfil are encouraged to implement practices designed to preserve and protect our environment and shape the future of our environmental security; and
Whereas hundreds of thousands of Canadians show their concern for the environment and their communities by participating in Pitch-In Day projects to reduce, reuse, recycle and properly dispose of waste; and
Whereas Pitch-In Canada encourages voluntary action to keep communities clean and beautiful and restore and maintain a healthy environment; and
Whereas the annual recognition of this day is an opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to the principles of that first Earth Day.
Therefore, on behalf of the Town of Innisfil I, Mayor Lynn Dollin, do hereby proclaim April 22, 2024, as Earth Day and encourage everyone to take part in Innisfil’s Annual Pitch-In Day on May 11, 2024.
