Whereas annually across Canada, May 1 to 7 is recognized as National Youth Week; and

Whereas The Town of Innisfil strives to support youth in their pursuit of play and positive youth development; and

Whereas there is an increasing interest in intentional youth development through recreation in Canada that is founded on a substantial and growing body of research to support the role of inclusive and diverse opportunities in the positive development of youth. Canadian youth are often unrecognized for the valuable contributions they make to communities and Canada’s social, economic, and civic landscape. Meaningful youth engagement through these diverse areas emphasizes access, equity, and social justice and leads to positive youth development; and

Whereas National Youth Week reminds us of all the valuable contributions that recreation, sports, arts, clubs, and other community engagements can make to youth development and that youth can make to community development. During this week, organizations across Innisfil will be hosting increased programming and events for youth in our community, through which we can recognize their contributions and actions toward the betterment of Innisfil; and

Whereas National Youth Week is endorsed by a network of agencies and individuals committed to the positive development of youth.

Therefore, I Mayor Lynn Dollin, on behalf of the Corporation, hereby proclaim May 1 to 7, 2025, National Youth Week in the Town of Innisfil.
