Innisfil proclaims Congenital Heart Disease Awareness Day
Whereas Congenital Heart Disease exists at birth; and
Whereas when people think of heart disease and stroke, they often think of adults and seniors. However, heart disease and stroke can happen in people of all ages, including infants; and
Whereas eight out of every 1000 children born will have some form of a congenital heart defect (C.H.D.); and
Whereas raising awareness has resulted in medical advances that are helping those born with heart disease live into adulthood. Sixty years ago, fewer than 20% of infants born with complex heart defects reached adulthood. Today, more than 90% do; and
Whereas residents of Innisfil should be made aware that those in their community have been impacted by congenital heart disease so that they may provide support and encouragement; and
Whereas with awareness comes the hope that early diagnosis and intervention becomes a top priority.
Now Therefore, I Mayor Lynn Dollin on behalf of Innisfil Council hereby proclaim February 14, 2024, as Congenital Heart Disease Awareness Day, in the Town of Innisfil.
