Innisfil, ON – Yesterday, members of Innisfil Council celebrated another Automated External Defibrillator (AED) donation from the Chase McEachern Memorial Fund thanks to fundraising efforts of the 8th annual Joe Marth Memorial Golf Tournament. AEDs are portable devices designed to provide life-saving treatment to individuals experiencing sudden cardiac arrest.

“We’re grateful to have received another AED donation in Innisfil thanks to the Chase McEachern Memorial Fund,” says Mayor Lynn Dollin. “While I hope no one ever has to use it, having this AED helps ensure life-saving care is available at one of Cookstown’s most popular outdoor spaces if there’s a cardiac emergency.”

The AED is placed outside at the Cookstown Fairgrounds (20 Church Street) between the outdoor rink and playground equipment, steps away from the splash pad, basketball court and Innisfil ideaLAB & Library’s Cookstown Branch.

The Chase McEachern Memorial Fund and Joe Marth Memorial Golf Tournament share the goal of placing AEDs in public spaces and empowering people to use them. Chase McEachern was a young boy full of passion for life and athletics when he collapsed at school from cardiac arrest in 2006 and never recovered. Fully aware of his heart condition, Chase had a dream for everyone to be protected in emergencies—wherever they may be.

Joe Marth passed away from a sudden heart attack in 2015. The annual Joe Marth Memorial Golf Tournament was established by Cam Galbraith and Bob Penrose in memory of Joe’s life and friendship that brought joy into every room he entered. The new AED in Cookstown marks their fourth AED placement in Simcoe County in partnership with the Chase McEachern Memorial Fund. The 9th annual Joe Marth Memorial Golf Tournament will take place on May 25, 2024 at Innisbrook Golf Course.

“This AED is another important step in keeping Chase’s dream alive,” says John McEachern, Chase’s father and Board Member of the Chase McEachern Memorial Fund. “Thank you to the organizers of the Joe Marth Memorial Golf Tournament for their continued support in funding public AEDs and saving people in cardiac arrest.”
