Innisfil, ON – This afternoon, the Town of Innisfil proudly announced that the Innisfil Spartans will be the newest team playing in the Provincial Junior Hockey League (PJHL). The lnnisfil Spartans, owned and operated by lnnisfil Sports Group, will be a Junior C Hockey Team in the Ontario Hockey Association.

“We’re thrilled to share this exciting news for the Innisfil sports community,” said Mayor Lynn Dollin. “A Junior hockey team will foster a sense of community, pride and passion. It will continue to promote an active lifestyle and create opportunities for high performance athletes right here at home.”

Innisfil resident and team owner, George Floros, began the process of bringing a team to the Innisfil Recreational Complex in 2019. Now approved by the PJHL, the Innisfil Spartans will be playing in the 2022/2023 season.

"The lnnisfil Spartans Junior C Hockey Club is an organization committed to the development and success of our young hockey players as team members and student athletes,” said Floros. “It’s our goal that our players will be outstanding athletes and role models in the Innisfil community. The team is dedicated to providing a junior hockey opportunity that offers a positive on-ice experience as well as a positive off-ice lifestyle.”

Generally, Junior C is a development level for Tier II Junior A and Junior B hockey. The current Junior C league playing circle includes municipalities such as Stayner, Orillia, Schomburg, Alliston, Midland, Penetanguishene, and Caledon.

Innisfil has not had a Junior level hockey team since 1985 when the Stroud Bruins Junior A ceded their operations at the Stroud-Innisfil Community Centre. Hockey continued in the community at other levels, ranging from introduction to hockey (Initiation Program or IP) to Bantam and Midget teams. With the introduction of a new Junior C team, these younger players can now grow their skills and continue their competitive hockey career within Innisfil.

lnnisfil Sports Group will be responsible of all operations relating to the team. The Town continues to work with Innisfil Sports Group to finalize ice time and other negotiations.
