Innisfil, ON – Members of Town of Innisfil Council and Council-Elect gathered to pay tribute to the legacy of former Mayor Stewart Fisher and his wife, Betty. A plaque in his honour was placed inside the Stewart and Betty Fisher Family Community Room at the Rizzardo Health & Wellness Centre. His plaque of recognition for support was placed beside Betty’s to acknowledge and represent their significant support for the residents of Innisfil.

Stewart passed away in August 2022, predeceased by his wife Betty in 2015. As long-time Innisfil residents and community supporters they, and their family, pledged $70,000 to help build the Stewart and Betty Fisher Family Community Room, a space for community groups to gather.

“Stewart and Betty were pillars of our community who were committed to building a stronger Innisfil,” says Mayor Lynn Dollin. “Stewart was the Mayor of Innisfil from 1992-1997, and was also a former Chief of Police, Warden of Simcoe County and Chairman of the Simcoe County School Board. Betty was heavily involved in the community raising funds for the Canadian Cancer Society and was named Citizen of the Year in 1986 by the Innisfil Historical Society. They truly had an impact on this community and while we miss them dearly, these plaques will serve as a constant reminder of their dedication and generosity to Innisfil.”
