Help shape Innisfil's future at upcoming public open houses
Innisfil, ON – The Town of Innisfil invites community members to give feedback on preliminary ward boundary alternatives at public open houses. This work is being done as part of the Ward Boundary and Council Composition Review, an evaluation of the town’s ward boundaries to ensure effective representation at future municipal elections. The goal is for all Innisfil residents’ votes to be similar in “weight” regardless of where they live.
“Having fair representation for all voters is fundamental for any democracy. We want all Innisfil residents to know that their vote matters, and counts the same, no matter where they live,” says Mayor Lynn Dollin. “I encourage all community members to attend one of the public open houses and give their feedback on this important work.”
The public open houses are being hosted at the Innisfil ideaLAB & Library Lakeshore Branch (967 Innisfil Beach Road) on Thursday, September 19 from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. Participating community members can expect to be presented with a series of preliminary ward boundary options and be asked to share their thoughts on each.
The last time a ward boundary review was undertaken was in 2009. Since then, ward boundaries have remained the same, but the Town’s rising population has led to a population imbalance in some wards. In 2023, Council approved the creation of a Ward Boundary Ad Hoc Committee to review ward boundaries in preparation for the 2026 municipal election. This committee is tasked to lead the Review and provide Council with ward boundary recommendations for their consideration.
