Innisfil, ON – With temperatures and humidity set to rise over the coming days, the Town of Innisfil is reminding residents of how to take precautions during extreme heat.

“In a briefing with Environment Canada and Climate Change and the Provincial Emergency Operations Management Centre regarding the high temperatures and humidity coming our way, we wanted to advise residents on measures they should take,” says Brent Thomas, Fire Chief, Innisfil Fire and Rescue Services.

What you can do to prepare for extreme heat:

  • Ensure any cooling devices, such as air conditioners and fans are in working order
  • Consume lots of water/fluids
  • If working outside, ensure you are wearing sunscreen, a hat, wear loose light-coloured clothing and hydrate with fluids—and try to limit your time outside
  • Check in with family, friends or neighbours who may be at higher risk
  • As always, in case of an emergency, call 911

The Town’s library branches will be available to residents as cooling centres during their operating hours.
