Meet Karenlee: An Onboarding Ambassador

I am a “joiner” and a team player. I can’t help myself. If there’s a committee, I’m on it. If there’s a fundraiser, I’m baking 15 dozen cookies to support it. I like to have fun and engage with people and help those who might need a little bit of guidance. I believe that a well-planned onboarding process is key to a new employee’s success. So, when I was introduced to the Onboarding Ambassador Program at the Town of Innisfil, I had to be a part of it!

In my various roles with the Town and more recently with the Innisfil ideaLAB & Library, I have had the privilege of serving on several committees and staying connected with people across our One Town, One Team. These different roles and experiences have given me some insight and perspective, and has helped me to be a better Ambassador. I have built relationships and gained invaluable experience that I can pass on to new employees.

The Onboarding Ambassador Program is not just about welcoming someone to the organization. When you’re an Onboarding Ambassador, you partner with a new employee during their first couple of months of employment, offer advice and guidance, and provide knowledgeable resources and encouragement to make them feel truly at home. You get to ask them questions and find out all the interesting things about them, their background, and ultimately what lead them to Innisfil.

We have the most extraordinary people here. Truly everyone I have had the pleasure of working with is not only great at what they do, they are also genuinely good people. As an Onboarding Ambassador, I like being that first point of contact; that go-to person that a new employee can rely on. If I don’t have the answers I can get them and point that person in the right direction. I can make introductions to help them build new relationships and feel a part of the larger Team Innisfil.

The Town of Innisfil is a place where people can grow, learn, be challenged and celebrate all of our differences. The people are what make an organization. It’s the people that make this organization special. It’s the people that matter.
