I originally started with the Town in 2012 as a By-Law Co-op Student while I was studying Policing at Georgian College. I was offered a contract once I finished my schooling and became a full time Community Standards Officer in 2015. In 2021 I moved into the Community Standards Leader position, and I have the privilege of leading an amazing team of officers.

My day-to-day looks very different depending on varying special projects. As part of my job, I provide guidance and advice to the officers, and look for ways we can do our job more efficiently and effectively. I proactively assess and update By-Laws and procedures to reflect the growing community and its expectations. I get to work very closely with my team daily, and our work allows us to interact with virtually all departments depending on the project at hand. I also liaise with Council, residents, and other stakeholders as needed.

I take pride in the work that we do. For one, I am proud of our Scrooge the Ticket Campaign that was started by our department in 2015. This campaign allows motorists who receive a parking ticket during a specified timeframe to donate cash, food, or toys to charity at the value of the ticket instead of paying for the ticket. Since we started, we have donated over $24,000 in cash, food, and toys to the Innisfil Food Bank. I am also proud of our transition to an Administrative Monetary Penalty System (AMPS) for parking tickets. The benefits of the program include better cost recovery for the Town of defaulted fines and better customer service for defendants who receive tickets by providing a less intimidating and faster process for resolving tickets.

I was previously involved in the Joint Health and Safety Committee. Being on the committee opened my eyes to the importance of regular inspections and the amount of thought that goes into making the Town of Innisfil a safe place to work. The committee also provides some great education and advice when needed.

The people at the Town of Innisfil are awesome. Across all departments, I have met and worked with some amazing people. I have made some good friends over the years working for the Town. We have a lot of positive interactions with the community and being able to resolve a concern for a community member gives me and the team a great sense of satisfaction!
