Employee Feature: Lauren's Story
I started with the Town of Innisfil in February 2024 as an Economic Development Champion. My position is great because I get to take on a variety of different opportunities related to promoting business retention and expansion in Innisfil. I work on internally-focused projects – like collecting baseline research information and externally focused projects, developing business success story profiles and running events. I work closely within the Economic Development team and most of the projects I work on follow a team approach. I also get to work with community stakeholders like businesses, entrepreneurs, and ecosystem partners (such as the Innisfil IdeaLAB & Library or Nottawasaga Futures). On my in-office days, I also work primarily from the DMZ Innisfil, Innisfil’s own accelerator and incubator, which does a fantastic job of supporting local entrepreneurs. It’s energizing because I get to meet and be surrounded by people who are as passionate about business development as I am!
We recently launched a Shop Local video (Shop Innisfil…Your Daytrip Destination) that was accompanied by a social media campaign. This was a great project to work on as it really captured community spirit and pride in Innisfil, while showing off the range of businesses and activities that we have here.
There's a lot I love about working for the Town of Innisfil. I currently participate in the Employee Get out and Give (EGG) committee. I enjoy being a part of this committee because it’s great to connect with others who want to use their time and influence to support those around us. I also really love the flexibility of working at the Town. The hybrid work agreement and flexibility of working hours supports my ability to do a great job, while also maintaining a work-life balance. I know a lot of places say they believe in work-life balance, but the Town actually has the policies in place to make it a priority. The organization also does a lot to build a positive corporate culture. We do quarterly all staff socials and fun events designed to build relationships with the people you work with. It leads to a really pleasant and supportive work environment. Additionally, I also really love the pet friendly policy. My own dog, Waffles recently came for his first visit to Town Hall and had a great day! When I joined the Town, People and Talent signed me up with an ambassador, which made the transition (and my nerves) so much easier to handle. It was a great way to feel like you already had a friend in the office!
