It all started for me when I moved to Innisfil in summer of 2016 and thought to myself—I can see myself becoming a Town Engineer! After starting with the Town on a long-term contract as an Engineering Intern, I later transitioned into the full-time permanent role of Development Engineer. In addition to contributing to the development of Innisfil, I wanted to make an impact on the employees by joining two committees I’m passionate about. The Employee Recognition Task Force allows me to be creative, as well as lead recognition initiatives and show employees at TOI how much they are valued and appreciated. The Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Working Group is also near and dear to me; as a woman in a mainly male dominated field, but also as a South American immigrant from Guyana, with East Indian roots and West Indian culture—I wanted to share my experiences and story and contribute to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace and community.

Why do I love working for the Town? It’s the work culture and being surrounded by wonderful people (some I even consider family). Something I will never forget is when my daughter was being born and I had no family to stay with my sons during the delivery. My leader and a co-worker came to the hospital at the crack of dawn to be with my boys in the waiting area so my husband could be with me during the delivery of our daughter. This kindness is something I will never forget.
