Save the Date: Workshops Planned to Support the Success of Local Newcomers
The Town of Innisfil and City of Orillia are teaming up to support newcomers in integrating into the local workforce. Two workshops will take place on January 28 to help employers overcome cultural barriers in the workplace and to help newcomers achieve career success.
- Mastering Cross-Cultural Communication (January 28, from 12-1 p.m.) is designed for local employers and will cover:
- Strategies for effective communication across cultural boundaries
- Overcoming language and cultural barriers in the workplace
- Building cultural intelligence for global collaboration
- Building a Personal Brand for Career Success (January 28, from 5-6:30 p.m.) is designed for local newcomers and will cover:
- Understanding the fundamentals of personal branding
- Leveraging storytelling to own your narrative
- Creating a strong LinkedIn profile and online presence

Ask An Expert: Engaging Local Post-Secondary Schools in Your Talent Strategy Webinar
In today’s competitive job market, building a robust talent pipeline is crucial for organizational success. On December 4, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., Jessica Lovett, Director of Career Services and Co-op at Lakehead University, and Brett Wismer, Employer Relations Consultant for Co-operative Education and Career Success at Georgian College, will discuss opportunities of partnering with local post-secondary institutions to develop a strong talent pipeline for your organization.
Management Essentials: Building Effective Teams Training
The County of Simcoe Economic Development Office is pleased to announce a FREE Management Essentials: Building Effective Teams training session that will be held on Thursday, December 5 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the County of Simcoe Administration Office, 1110 ON 26 West, Midhurst.
The session aims to teach managers and aspiring leaders how to create and maintain a successful team. Participants will explore the stages of team development, effective team behaviors, and the role of the leader in order to set team goals and develop strategies for managing conflict within a team.
Registrants who complete the course will be awarded a digital badge from Georgian College to display on their LinkedIn profiles and email signatures. Completed modules can also be counted towards Georgian College’s full Management Essentials micro-credential.
Space is limited (2 individuals per organization).

Regional Artificial Intelligence Initiative (RAII)
The Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario) is here to help southern Ontario businesses bring new technologies to market and accelerate AI adoption in sectors across the regions, through the government of Canada's Regional Artificial Intelligence Initiative (RAII).
Funding opportunities are available for eligible southern Ontario businesses and organizations for projects that promote business growth and artificial intelligence. For more information and to learn if your business is eligible, please visit FedEv's website.
In southern Ontario, FedDev Ontario is accepting applications to RAII under two pillars from October 22, 2024 to December 20, 2024.
Regional Development Program
The Regional Development Program (RDP) supports economic development opportunities for businesses and communities in regions across the province. The Regional Development Program takes a coordinated approach to supporting business growth in eastern and southwestern Ontario. The program supports eligible small-and-medium-sized businesses investing in new equipment and training to expand operations in these regions.
Intake continues for the RDP (Eastern Ontario Development Fund, Southwestern Ontario Development Fund). Application period 18 has opened on November 5, 2024, and will close on January 28, 2025. For more information, please see the Regional Development Program website.
