Innisfil, ON – The Town of Innisfil Council recently approved the creation of two new committees focusing on municipal elections. The Town is now actively seeking interested community members to apply for these committees to advise and provide Council with recommendations regarding elector engagement and for a review of the Town’s ward boundaries.

“We identified a need to better engage residents and encourage voter turnout in the next municipal election in 2026 as well as a re-evaluation of the current ward boundaries,” says Mayor Lynn Dollin. "This is a tremendous opportunity for interested residents to shape the future of municipal elections in this community.”

The first committee is the Electoral Engagement Advisory Committee. The Town is seeking seven members who will work with Town staff to develop strategies to improve voter turnout. Interested candidates should have a strong interest or previous experience with electoral, voter or civic engagement.

The second committee is the Ward Boundary Committee, an ad-hoc advisory committee, to review the existing ward boundaries and make recommendations, based on growth and population distribution in Innisfil as well as advocating for effective representation. This committee requires five community members to undertake this review and make recommendations back to Council. It is anticipated this committee will bring recommendations to Council at the end of 2024 and ideal candidates should have experience as a former Council member or a municipal planning background.

Applications for both of these new committees are available at innisfil.ca/committees along with Terms of Reference for both committees. Interested applicants should apply by May 9, 2023 (end of business day). If more information is required, contact clerksoffice@innisfil.ca
