Innisfil's 'Our Place' Official Plan guides planning decisions for the town to the year 2051. All new development applications must follow these guidelines to be approved.

We updated the Official Plan in 2026 to ensure it reflects our community’s needs and priorities for the future.

Our Place - Innisfil's Official Plan

We drafted our Official Plan with help from community input and external consultants, which is why we named it "Our Place". Our Place is more than a land use planning document. It boosts placemaking, community character, and social connections while managing growth and development in Innisfil.

Our vision

Innisfil will grow and thrive based on the places and destinations at the heart of Innisfil – the places where we shop, eat, gather, interact, play, and most of all, build the social and emotional ties that hold the community together. We will manage and plan our growth in a responsible and deliberate way that provides sustainable and timely infrastructure and maintains the strong sense of community, rural, and small-town feel that we value and cherish. We will be respectful of tradition but not bound by it, as we evolve and grow into a vibrant, active, sustainable and multicultural community that offers intriguing and unique places, engaging activities and the essential social connections that makes Our Place thrive as a place to grow, a place to connect, a place to work and a place to call home.

Our goals

Innisfil's Strategic Plan 2030 lays out a series of goals representing four key focus areas: Grow, Sustain, Connect, and Serve. Together, these themes form the framework of our Official Plan. Community input helped inform the goals within each area.

Grow

Our Place supports Innisfil’s growth while celebrating and respecting the urban, rural, and agricultural spaces that make it unique. It aims to:

  • Ensure growth happens in the right places and supports complete, connected communities.
  • Facilitate the development of the Orbit and GO station, streamline the development approval process, and develop a land acquisition strategy.
  • Provide a mix of housing options and consider opportunities to support affordable and attainable housing projects.
  • Build the local economy by developing policies to promote employment, supporting
    investment in Innisfil Heights, developing the Economic Development Strategy, and supporting the future of gaming in Innisfil.

Sustain

Our Place supports protecting and improving Innisfil’s natural environment while planning responsibly for the future. It aims to:

  • Protect Innisfil’s natural environment and Lake Simcoe by improving systems that safeguard our water supply, supporting biodiversity, and preserving natural heritage areas.
  • Reduce our carbon emissions by making our facilities more energy-efficient, developing a community-based strategy to encourage sustainable ways of living, and adopting new green urban design standards for development. 
  • Ensure the Town’s long-term financial health by planning carefully for infrastructure investments, maintaining assets, and pursuing available grant opportunities.

Connect

Our Place helps build connections and support the overall wellbeing and vitality of our community. It aims to:

  • Enhance online engagement, develop an Indigenous Relationship Strategy, and increase youth engagement in local government.
  • Ensure a safe and reliable transportation network by expanding the road rehabilitation program, implementing the Transportation Master Plan and Traffic Calming Strategy, and exploring options to expand the local transit.
  • Support the community by improving access to health and wellness programs, attracting more healthcare professionals, supporting the RVH Innisfil Campus project, implementing the Land and Lake Plan, and encouraging togetherness through activities and events.
  • Continue to engage in advocacy and partnerships to deliver on community priorities.

Serve

Our Place supports delivering high-quality, responsive, and accessible services for the community. It aims to:

  • Strengthen service delivery through continuous innovation and accountability measures.
  • Build organizational resilience by recognizing the efforts of all Town Staff, supporting their health and wellbeing, and ensuring they can reach their full potential.
  • Develop a diversity, equity, and inclusion strategy to welcome all people within our Town and ensure everyone has equal access to services.
