Innisfil announces extended partnership for DMZ Innisfil program with TMU’s DMZ

Innisfil, ON – The Town of Innisfil unveiled a five-year extension to its partnership with Toronto Metropolitan University’s DMZ at a DMZ Innisfil Showcase event held at Friday Harbour Resort on June 18.
“Entrepreneurs are the heart and soul of our community, that’s why I am thrilled to announce that this week the Town of Innisfil and Toronto Metropolitan University’s DMZ have entered into a new 5-year agreement to extend our partnership on the DMZ Innisfil program,” Lynn Dollin, Mayor of Innisfil shared with event attendees during formal remarks. “Together with our peers at DMZ we’ve already initiated discussions to explore how we might reach even greater heights by aligning our efforts to achieve our common goals.
The announcement marks a major milestone in the DMZ Innisfil program, which was initiated in 2020 and is delivered by the Innisfil Economic Development team. Since that time, more than 116 businesses have taken part in comprehensive Startup Incubator and Business Accelerator programs that help entrepreneurs across the region start and grow their businesses. The team also supports founders through the DMZ Innisfil All Access event series, which provided educational workshops and events to more than 1,200 founders in 2024 alone.
The annual DMZ Innisfil Showcase brings together representatives from across the global DMZ community to network, share ideas and form new partnerships. Attendees include participants from the DMZ YYZ, Basecamp, the Centre for Housing Innovation’s Accelerator program and DMZ Innisfil programs, as well as business mentors and partners from the regional business support ecosystem. This year’s theme focused on building stronger communities through innovation and featured a panel of four entrepreneurs who are building programs and technologies to support community building.
“Events like this are important in amplifying the successes of local entrepreneurs,” says DMZ Innisfil alum Jennifer Ai, Founder of Leopard AI. “DMZ Innisfil helps entrepreneurs make meaningful connections through which we can grow and support each other in reaching new heights.”
The DMZ Innisfil program focuses on businesses in the Innisfil area, but is open to all businesses in Simcoe County, Barrie and Orillia. Those wanting to learn more about the program are encouraged to attend the upcoming virtual information session on July 10, 2025. Advanced registration is required at innisfil.ca/DMZ.
