Innisfil, ON – Innisfil Council has approved two major initiatives that are sure to benefit residents for years to come. First, Council voted unanimously for forming a Stage 1 partnership with Uber and local taxi companies to bring a reliable, affordable and accessible on-demand public transit service to the town. Second, Council endorsed the Innisfil Health Hub project to construct a health centre and bring expanded medical services to Innisfil.

“By partnering with Uber, we will provide a public transit system that will deliver service to all residents – something that has been a challenge with our town’s expansive geography,” said Innisfil Mayor Gord Wauchope. “And as for the health centre – providing better health services in Innisfil is something residents have been anticipating for years – and we are thrilled to finally be making this happen.”

Town staff are aiming for Stage 1 of the on-demand transit service to go live on May 1, 2017. Residents can learn more by reading the Town staff report and by checking out the special webpage on the Town’s website: www.innisfil.ca/transit.

As for the health centre, Town staff have been working closely with a group of doctors and pharmacists who plan to operate out of the building (also known as Innisfil Health Partners Incorporated “IHP”). The Town and IHP envision a two-story health facility that offers family doctors, laboratory services, a pharmacy, a walk-in clinic, diagnostic imaging, and possibly an urgent care centre. The proposed location for the health centre is 2183 Innisfil Beach road. Residents can learn more by reading the Town staff report.

“Town staff have been working very hard to bring these highly sought-after services to our residents,” said Innisfil CAO Jason Reynar. “It wasn’t long ago that the thought of having access to transit or enhancing medical services was believed to be impossible, but we are proving it can be done when you think outside the box and form the right partnerships.”
