The Community Development Standards Branch is the new amalgamated Building and Municipal By-Law Enforcement departments. The new "One Window" approach to meeting the needs of the residents of Innisfil while the Town continues to grow will ensure the Town is meeting the needs of everyone. The changes go beyond the name alone. There are new extended hours so inspections can be conducted at your convenience and permits can be issued quickly.
The primary purpose of the Ontario Building Code is to protect the people - to allow them to enter, occupy and exit buildings safely. The basic principles of the Code are health, safety, accessibility, structural sufficiency and energy efficiency.
The Ontario Building Code that was first implemented in 1976, set the minimum standards for the design and construction for all new buildings, additions, alterations and changes of use within buildings. Every municipality in Ontario is given the responsibility of enforcing the Provincial Building Code Act and the corresponding Code.
Community Standards Officers
The officers are responsible for the enforcement of by-laws adopted by Council, various Provincial Statutes and other duties that may be assigned by Council. The Department is also responsible for the administration of certain by-laws. In keeping with Inspiring Innisfil initiatives, the Department’s main objective is to gain compliance with all Town by-laws.
