Age requirements

You need to be at least 16 years old to get married in Ontario. If you are under 18, you will need written consent from both your parents. Contact us for further information or for consent forms.

Remarrying

If a previous marriage was dissolved or annulled within Canada, you must submit your original or certified copy of the Decree Absolute or Certificate of Divorce to the Town. You can get a certified copy from the court that issued the divorce. We return these documents to you immediately.

If a previous marriage was dissolved or annulled outside of Canada, you must obtain authorization from the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services before getting a marriage licence. This process can take up to four weeks.

Licence expiry

Marriage licences are typically valid anywhere in Ontario for three months, or 90 days, from the date it was issued. You must give the licence to the marriage officiant prior to the ceremony.

Civil marriage ceremonies

Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials! The Town offers civil marriage ceremony services for those looking for a simple, non-religious ceremony. We conduct ceremonies at Innisfil Town Hall within Council Chambers or at the outdoor gazebo at Town Hall. With arrangements made by the couple, our officiants can also attend private venues and residences. Ceremonies are available on Fridays and Saturdays.

Request a civil marriage ceremony

To request a civil marriage ceremony with the Town, please complete our online Civil Marriage Ceremony Request Form. We are currently only accepting online applications. Our staff will respond with any questions or next steps after we receive your application.
